A working visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Turkey

the luxury hotel Ciragan Palace. Opening the meeting and greeting the distinguished Turkmen guest on behalf of the Turkish side, Chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Rifat Hisarcıklıoglu emphasized that it was a great honour for the representatives of Turkey’s business circles and him to meet with the leader of the country, known today as one of the dynamically developing economies of the world. Expressing sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for providing effective support to Turkmen-Turkish, Chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey confirmed the continued interest of Turkish businessmen in building up fruitful bilateral business partnership. Mr. Rifat Hisarcıklıoglu noted that the meeting would contribute to further cooperation.

The floor was given to the President of Turkmenistan. Greeting those present, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu for the opportunity of a meeting with Turkish businessmen. Turkmenistan is a neutral state that aims the foreign policy at promoting fruitful relations with different countries in the world. This year our country is widely celebrating the 20th anniversary of the status of neutrality, which has been re-affirmed this year by the United Nations Resolution.

The Turkmen leader said that the celebrations in honour of this significant date would take place in December and invited all those present to participate in the upcoming events. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continued that abundant natural resources of Turkmenistan, in particular hydrocarbon resources, created ample opportunities to expand mutually beneficial business relationship, noting that open doo r policy plays a significant role in this regard. In his speech the Turkmen leader placed particular emphasis on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. The gas pipeline that has the length of 1,800 kilometres is designed to significantly promote sustainable social and economic development of the Asian region as well as contribute to

strengthening global energy security. Noting that a number of world-renowned companies from Japan and South Korea had expressed their willingness to implement the TAPI project, the Turkmen leader invited Turkish companies to cooperation. The Turkmen leader emphasized that twenty three national programmes as well as the sector development programmes aimed at economic modernisation, development of industrial infrastructure and improvement of the housing sector were currently implemented in our country. Turkish companies are making a substantial contribution to the successful implementation of the projects in the framework of these programmes as well. The first of them that have begun with small investments and been operating in the Turkmen market for many years gained wide renown along with substantial dividends. Giving arguments in favour of building up mutually beneficial partnership, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the current macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan was characterized by stable and rapid growth. Numerous promising projects have been launched in Turkmenistan’s construction industry. In this regard, the Turkmen leader said that the ambitious reforms were

being implemented in all spheres, including the legislative sphere, providing even greater reliability and investment attractiveness of our country for foreign investors. In particular, the investments amounting to US$ 15.7 billion were used in our country in 2014. Noting that a number of modern industrial facilities for Turkmenistan’s textile industry had been built in cooperation with Turkish companies, the Turkmen leader said that the textile industry could be an illustrative example of innovative development. It is also planned to reconstruct and modernize a number of textile complexes, cotton spinning mills, clothing factories and tannery factories. The leader of Turkmenistan noted that special attention was given to the development of agriculture. Ample opportunities for cooperation are being created the important areas, such as construction of livestock complexes and introduction of advanced technologies in farming practices. The power industry, the capacities of which allow our country to export large amounts of electricity, plays a special role in the strategic plans of Turkmenistan. The President of Turkmenistan said that a number of social and cultural facilities, including health care and educational institutions and cultural centres, were to be built in 2015 in order to achieve the objectives of the National Rural Development Programme. The Turkmen leader focused on the practicability of the involvement of Turkish companies in the implementation of ambitious projects in the framework of the Programme. The Turkmen leader mentioned the transport and communications sector as one of the important areas of cooperation with Turkish businessmen in terms of investment activity. Turkmenistan’s chemical industry is also very attractive for large-scale investment projects. Turkmenistan that aims at deep and complex conversion of crude oil and enhanced exports of oil and natural gas products is going not only to substantially expand its position in the market of primary energy resources, but also to take a worthy place in the more lucrative market of chemical products The Turkmen leader emphasized that Turkmenistan was carrying out extensive work to diversify its energy export routes to world markets. The necessary measures are being taken to negotiate natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Turkey. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that one of the key objectives of the economic policy of the Turkmen state was to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, noting that the Turkmen state aimed to more actively involve businessmen in achieving the goals of sustainable economic development. Moreover, ample opportunities are given to Turkmen businessmen to promote their products and services on foreign markets, including in the construction industry. Inviting the representatives of Turkey’s business circles to participate in the implementation of projects in Turkmenistan, the President of Turkmenistan noted that businessmen would achieve major success on conditions that a fair and responsible approach to work was taken. In conclusion, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov once again expressed gratitude for organizing the meeting designed to become another practical step to build up fruitful business partnership. The possibilities to further enhance bilateral cooperation in key areas were discussed in a sincere and constructive atmosphere. Reaffirming the willingness of big business in Turkey to strengthen and expand its position in the promising Turkmen market, the top managers of the leading companies put forward concrete proposals for the establishment of fruitful relations, including through diversification of economic partnership.
