12.01.2016 A regular meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with deputies of the Parliament took place at the Mejlis building. The key objectives in the law-making sphere to be achieved in 2016, declared the Year of Reverence for Heritage, Reforms in the Motherland, were identified during the meeting.

Before the meeting with deputies of Mejlis, a meeting with the Chairperson of Mejlis, the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and the high-ranking officials of military and law enforcement agencies took place at the Mejlis building. The issues related to the modernization of national legislation, the prepration of new statutory and legal acts that would meet modern requirements and international standards and aim to promote social and economic development of the country were discussed. Then the Turkmen leader entered the assembly hall of the Mejlis building where those present greeted and enthusiastically applauded the President.

Given the importance of the event, the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and the high-ranking officials of military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations, higher educational institutions and the media gathered in the assembly hall. The Turkmen leader greeted those present at the meeting. Addressing the parliamentarians, the Turkmen leader said it had become a tradition to meet with deputies of Mejlis every year and discuss the objectives of the progressive development of our sovereign Motherland and the further improvement of social and living conditions of the people. The Turkmen leader noted that Mejlis of Turkmenistan carried out large-scale work in the law-making sphere jointly with the Cabinet of Ministers and the ministries and departments in 2015. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that along with the intensification of legislative activity, Mejlis was taking consistent measures to broaden the functions of deputies in the constituencies. The work on the development of democracy in our country and implementation of the international human rights obligations, which was producing good results, should continue. The Turkmen leader dwelt upon a number of aspects of legislative activity which were of particular importance today. Addressing the meeting, Chairperson of Mejlis A. Nurberdyeva expressed profound gratitude on behalf of deputies of Mejlis to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his unceasing concern and appreciation of their efforts to provide the legislative support for the strategic state programmes and progressive democratic reforms.
